I've been communicating with them. They know there may be some issues
with their issues and intend to include an addendum to HP/Compaq. I
don't know if that will be visible online.

I haven't heard of most of the issues, other than the screen particles.
Most of the issues do seem to have operating system entanglements,
which I haven't seen since I bought my iPAQ for its hardware and
immediately removed the damage in the ROM.

I pointed out the first obvious problem in their list: Issue 6, where
Today/Calendar displays won't change/appear, is probably not a hardware
issue. As the screen is visible, the display hardware seems to be
working. If the touchscreen hardware was not working, the Calendar
button should have an effect -- and vice versa. Software seems to me to
be more likely to be the source of the problem. But that's just my
general opinion; I don't know the full description nor their source.

Similarly, another "hardware" problem was that something quit working
after a ROM upgrade. That sounds to me like a problem with the upgraded
software, so the hardware should still be working even if the new
software doesn't know how to use it.

The petition requests different treatment of hardware and software
issues, so their classifications are important.
