Looks like some system binary (ipkg itself, or one of its libraries) is
corrupt. If enough of the system is still working for you to copy files
from an external source, you can probably replace these files one at a
time until the problem is fixed.

Running out of flash during an upgrade of critical system packages like
libc will often break the system badly enough that you have to reflash
the root filesystem. You need to make sure there is plenty of space
before embarking on that kind of exercise.
