It's too bad this isn't a FAQ someplace. I had to grovel through all
sorts of search engine queries to find two different answers to this
question. (One of which, "One version is the retail model number and
one is the mail-order model number" was correct and the other "One has
silver buttons and one has black buttons" did not appear to be... :)
Even though it's not strictly Linux-related should this info go up on
handhelds.org someplace? If only so that people like me who wonder
"Gee, what's the difference between the H3630 and the 3650 and is it
going to run Linux ok? Am I losing anything with the 3630 instead of
the 3650?" will know.
Unrelated: I finally got mine Friday! I can't WAIT to get a serial
cable so I can put Linux on it. Not trying to start a flamewar of any
sort, but I was amazed at how much that PocketWindows stuff is just
incredibly badly-designed crap. It's very confusing and tries to "act
like" a powerful handheld workstation without actually giving you much
real extra functionality over the Palm Pilot, but being a lot more
needlessly complicated.
It's only redeeming value, AFAIC, and something that I've seen bounced
around here and there on this list is the "Transcriber" software that
lets you use the full screen as a handwriting recognition "overlay" of
sorts. It's very Newton-esque (I owned the MP130 and MP2100 and loved
'em both) and something I really miss from the Pilot and feel was a big
mistake, requiring that input happen in that little box under the
display. I haven't actually seen the way the LiPAQ input software
works, but if there would be any way to emulate this sort of behaviour,
it would be wonderful. I'd love to give it a shot at making something
like it, but I'm nowhere near any sort of handwriting/recognition X
hacker type, and doubt I'd be able to do much, so instead I'll just say
that I think this sort of input method is great and hope that something
like it for LiPAQ can be made.
