It might just be my bootloader which is odd, but I have to write the
full command like you would on the bootloader console:
set linuxargs=noinitrd root=/dev/mtdblock1 init=/linuxrc
in /boot/params
(so echo 'set linuxargs=noinitrd root=/dev/mtdblock1 init=/linuxrc'
>/boot/params instead)
