Haven't touched the playing cards yet
I am still having the strangest problem with the small mahjongg
tiles. If I run my compiled program from my chroot Debian installation
then everything works beautifully. However, when I transfer it over to
the true / on the iPAQ I get the following:

        teeny:~# mahjongg
Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library
Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib, locale set to C
Gdk-WARNING **: can not set locale modifiers
GnomeUI-WARNING **: Could not open help topics file NULL
/convert: No such file or directory
gdk_imlib ERROR: Cannot load image: /usr/share/pixmaps/mahjongg/default.png
        All fallbacks failed.

Under v0.16 things stop right here. The image file does exist in that
location and xli handles it just fine, (although xli doesn't use
gdk_imlib). The odd thing is that the behavior is the same even if I
copy over/point at all of the same shared libraries. I haven't tried
making a static version yet.

Under v0.17 I get the same messages as above, then it continues with:

Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library
Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib, locale set to C
Gdk-WARNING **: can not set locale modifiers

at which point it segfaults and brings up the little Gnome, "sorry
that I segfaulted" dialog.

I'm not sure what else would be different in the chroot environment
besides the shared libs. Ideas?

Also, as I mentioned, mahjongg displays with incorrect colors in v0.17
although they were correct in v0.16.

And I've been spending all of my time trying to get Java working. I'm
close to giving up at this point...

PS. Since I first wrote this message I decided to try another image
program which uses gdk_imlib, so I installed the gimp on my ipaq
(!). It actually runs quite well and the main toolbar fits nicely in
the new portrait mode. But you wouldn't believe how big some of the
dialogs are. That initial, "May I create these directories box is
HUGE! Anyway, I see the same behavior with the gimp, namely, I can
open the image in the chroot environment, but it fails when the gimp
is running "raw" on the iPAQ. Time to write a small gdk_imlib image
loader and break out the debugger...
