I'm not sure that this is just a problem with xscribble. Several
things seemed to have changed. Here is the behavior I see now:
1) The [<---] on my full keyboard, (w/ x2x), does not do
anything in rxvt.
2) The [<---] on my full keyboard, (x/ x2x), does not do
anything in xev.
3) The right-to-left stroke in xscribble appears to do nothing
4) The "Del" key in xvkbd generates Delete, which in rxvt
deletes the character under the cursor.
5) rxvt responds to CTRL-H by erasing the character to the
left of the cursor. (In desperation, you can hold down the
"curving arrow"-button while stroking H in xscribble or
simply use the two-stroke method for CTRL-H to do what you
want from backspace).
I'm guessing these changes have to do with Jim's new keyboard work,
which is much appreciated by the way! -- I love the auto-repeating
buttons and the new access to the "power" button, (which I personally
think could make a great "fire" button for games using the joypad for
motion).
There is a good reference explaining how to make [<---] and [Del]
behave consistently across many programs at:
http://igloo.its.unimelb.edu.au/Webmail/tips/msg00238.html
(It doesn't seem to be available at its true home of
http://www.ibbnet.nl/~anne/keyboard.html)
As the page mentions, this is a problem that should be dealt with at
the distribution level. And since we are in fact putting together a
distribution...
