You see a lot of people with communication problems and the first thing
someone usually asks is if they turned off flow control. I just looked
at the installation guide linked from handhelds.org and it has the
serial settings in bold including no flow control. What instructions
were you following specifically?
When they refer to backing up the rom they are actually talking about
Flash RAM. Depending on the model you have you have either 16mb or 32mb
of ROM (Flash RAM) and 32mb or 64mb of "normal" RAM. If you actually
had ROM, like many of the earlier pocketpc and wince machines, you
would have no ability to change its contents to have linux.
