[iPAQ] Using bootldr with USB cradle

I have an iPaq 2760 w/ a USB cradle. I am not able to get a boot>
prompt. In the installation instructions there is a line that states
"You will not see the boot> prompt unless you have the iPAQ attached to
a host computer via either a serial cable or a serial cradle with a
terminal emulator such as Hyperterminal or minicom." Is there a
workaround for the USB cradle?
