Yup. You can get SmartMedia->Pc card adapters. I tried one last year, and
was pleasantly suprised to find a FAT (can't remember if it was VFAT)
filesystem appearing. I was in the pub, and low on battery, so I didn't
play with it for too long, but it worked.

Another possibility is that I've got gphoto 2 running on my iPAQ. Only
useful if you've got a supported camera with a serial interface, but it
works great with my camera. Means I can offload photos from my 24Mb (total)
of SmartMedia to my 680Mb (or so, total) of CF :-)
