km >why do you say its a 3G phone?
Correct me if I'm wrong, however:
It is a GSM/GPRS unit. 3G is consists of several "component" technologies.
GSM/GPRS is the "first part" of 3G, with EDGE then UMTS to follow.
I first heard about 3G on ATT Wireless's web site, that's where I got most of
my info from but it is consistant with what I've read on Ericson's and
Motorola's web site, and others. For example:
http://www.attws.com/mobileinternet/
http://www.attws.com/press/releases/2001_07/071701.html
Also, It clearly says on Compaq's site that it is both voice and data:
"Add wireless data and voice capability to your iPAQ Pocket PC!"
"Combine the power of the iPAQ Pocket PC, the reach of a mobile phone, the
urgency of a pager, and the pervasiveness of the Internet."
"International GSM phone"
"Fastest access to wireless data on GPRS network"
Compaq doesn't say 3G, and perhaps I used the term inappropriately, but it
_is_ GSM/GPRS, and that's what 3G is based on.
Anyway, it's the GSM/GPRS part that's most interesting, who cares about the
rest :-)
