Re: [iPAQ] Opie, /root on CF-Card and so on

Oi!

I am currently running a similar setup to what I think you want to
do. Basically I did the following:

-Installed Fam 0.5.1 and opie without CF card just to get it
working.
-Then I installed Intimate (intimate.handhelds.org) on the CF
card. I did this primarily to get a running OS on the CF card and take
advantage of the boot script to allow me to choose which OS I want to
run; Familiar or Intimate (read: run OS from RAM or CF).
-Finally I setup Opie as the default window manager on the CF card
so I could take advantage of the opie layout and applications.

The benefits are that I have 2 working OSes and my ipaq is a
useable device with or without the CF card.

The downside is that files or programs created/modified/removed on
the CF won't (necessarily) show up when I don't boot into the CF. So I
had to do some evaluation on what's the purpose of having an ipaq without the
CF card and what it's purpose is WITH the CF card.

        I came up with this:

-Without the CF card my ipaq is:
my mobile pim with some games for when I'm bored, and a low-frills
internet connection for browsing and email.

-With the CF card, it's a:
Full-featured computer with the advantages of compiling programs,
downloading and storing mp3's, and all the goodies that
Familiar/Intimate/Opie have to offer.

I'm sure there are 1.744 million combinations of software that we
can put on the ipaq, but I think what's important is to determine the
purpose of our ipaqs.....besides of course a party-stopper and
chick-magnet :)
