Lance,

This is a rather Linux-centric maillist, so it's probably not the best place
for your MS PPC questions. But I happen to have the answer. :) See
http://www.compaq.com/support/files/handheldiPAQ/us/download/11135.html,
"iPAQ Pocket PC Fix for Unauthorized ROM Version" (correct link for
3600-series; go through http://www.compaq.com/support/files if you have a
different version).

As for your second question, general performance of Linux apps is infinitely
faster under Linux than PPC, and performance of PPC apps is infinitely
faster under PPC than Linux. Put another way, it's pretty hard to compare
apples to elephants -- Linux and PPC are different operating systems, with
completely different end-user applications, different pluses and minuses,
and little in common. The stuff from one does not run on the other. As far
as I know, you can't sync info between, e.g., your Windows PC and a Linux
iPAQ, or between your Linux workstation and PPC iPAQ. Bottom line: If you
like PPC (and generally don't object to Things Microsoft), you probably
won't like Linux on iPAQ. If you're a bithead and/or Linux/Unix devotee
(and generally object to MS's conquest of the world), you probably will like
Linux on iPAQ.

Now, if you're talking about a specific functionality that happens to exist
on both platforms, that's a different story, and one environment may offer
significantly higher performance -- but one needs to know what functionality
you're talking about before one can offer an opinion.
