[iPAQ] iPAQ

I have an illegal version of 2002 installed on the iPAQ before the official version was released. The official version refuses to install and returns Error 113'

1. Is there a workaround for this problem??
Compaq advises to send the machine to their workshop for resetting.

2. I have heard that the performance will improve tremendously when Linux is installed. If so, how do I go about with this?
