[iPAQ] dodgy sleeve? 3850

Could someone tell me how to check if the sleeve is OK?

on boot:
h3600-sleeve init_module successful init major=0
h3600-generic_sleeve modprobe: Can't locate module h3600-generic_sleeve
h3600-generic_uda1341 modprobe: Can't locate module
13-bit-sa1100-gpio13_attach_client: unable to get adapter:

also
cardmgr[89]: open_sock(socket 0) failed: device or resource busy
cardmgr[89]: no sockets found!

the cards don't seem to be fully home is that normal? ie they protrude
>1/8th inch.
the card that I hope should work is a Xircom CreditCard 10/100 CE3-10/100
1.00; manfid 0x0105, 0x010a; bind xirc2ps_cs.c
it is recognised correctly by RH7.2 as are 2 others I've tried from 3com,
none seem to be recognised by ipaq

btw I've no network experience, which doesn't altogether help....
however the card-lights come on nicely when used in the laptop and even
report correct IP addresses...
