If you can connect the serial cable, then press the soft-reset button
while holding the pad down, and see the 'boot>' prompt, you're in
luck.
All you need to do is type 'load root', and x-modem send your
backed-up windowsce image, wait till it flashes in, then type 'boot
wince'. Back to safe old Windows-land.

But if you can't get the bootloader working, then you are the proud
owner of a very expensive paperweight. However, IIRC, Compaq can be
persuaded to fix 'bricked' iPaqs free of charge or a small fee.
