I'm working on this.
I did a bit of looking around for file managers that I thought would scale
well to the iPAQ screen size and resource limitations. Not too many out
there fit the bill. Particularly some of the recent stuff like Midnight
Commander or Eazel's Nautilus. They're huge.
I've taken the ROX-Filer by Thomas Leonard as a starting point. It's a
pretty decent little graphical file manager, supports icons and several
different listing styles. Best of all, it can get very small in terms of
screen realestate.
It's a gnome app, but all the libraries it needs seem to be present in
v0.16 save one, libgmodule, which appears to be tiny.
I'm working on shrinking the prefs dialog, adding support to pop up menus
on a mouse "hold" (which incidentally seems more difficult than it should
be under gnome), and adding an option to default to full screen size.
My eventual goal is to add coda support to this file manager. I'm also
looking at adding threading.
Have a look,
