I don't know of anything (not made by Lucent) which is driver-compatible with
the Hermes-based cards. A few weeks ago, I was talking with a faculty member
here who works on MobileIP, and he mentioned that he thought Aironet made
802.11b cards with adjustable transmitter gain. (I'm interested in something
that draws a little bit less than 330mA myself.) I just checked the Aironet
site, however, and their AIR-PCM340 adapter looks like it draws 350mA. Hm.
(I haven't had time to investigate this further.)
I'll be excited if the Bitsy can a) power the card, and b) power the card for
any reasonable length of time. We added prismatic Li-ion cells to our Itsys in
order to support the Lucent card, and, well, it definitely affected the
aesthetic of the device. =)
