[iPAQ] "configure the ipaq for access to the internet": howto needed

I've noticed that I am not alone in finding this a problem.
I've been trying for 2 weeks and given up on using ppp. my adsl connection
requires a patched version 2.4.0b that is older than that needed by ipaq.

is there a: lan howto that is brief and works, mine is 2x pcmcia megahertz
3cce589et cards, but never used with linux.

or should a pcmcia megahertz 3ccm156 modem card work directly in a sleeve?
this would be very much slower, could minicom be used, as ppp seems to die
after a while.

I feel that this is where many people including me are getting foxed.
