Hi Jonathan,
1) task-bootstrap-2.4.17-rmk4_hh2.jffs2 is the initial image of the disk
that gets loaded onto the flash by the bootloader -
task-bootstrap-2.4.17-rmk4_hh2_arm.ipk is an ipkg that you can use after
you have everything installed to do an upgrade (except that ipkg doesn't
work for me yet ;-)
2) as far as I can follow, if I do partition reset, the bootloader scans
memory to determine partitions - I did partition reset, and it knew
about assets, and ignored it, making a new root partition in which I
"load root"ed the jffs2 image. I did protect the assets area (the
install instructions explain how to protect the bootloader), I just used
that with the info from partition list to protect assets as well, but
all went fine . . .

Subject: 2 issues: ipaq 3850
You seem to be a little ahead of me, are you creating a howto as you go?
Could you please expand on these 2 issues
1: what is this file:
task-bootstrap-2.4.17-rmk4_hh2.jffs2
is it installed in addition to the standard install?
It doesn't seem to be mentioned therein.
1a: what is this one:
task-bootstrap-2.4.17-rmk4_hh2_arm.ipk ?
2: "asset"
I'm not clear how one might either overwrite this or avoid such a
catastrophe.. presumably the standard install doesn't give you the
opportunity?
thanks

My 2 day old ipaq is keen to linux.
