Hi,

I'm happy to announce a first working version of qpe-modplugin, a
plugin for the Qtopia media player. Based on Olivier Lapicque's
modplug (also used in the popular xmms-modplug plugin) it allows
playing amiga modules (mod), scream tracker modules (s3m),
impulse tracker modules (it) , fast tracker 2 modules (xm) and a
whole lot of more excotic music modules popular in the demo scene,
using the Qtopia media player.

The plugin is available under the terms of the GPL. The source
tarball as well as a arm binary ipkg can be found at

    http://wwwcip.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/~sisihaus/qpe-modplugin/

The plugin only works with Qtopia 1.5.0 . For compiling the plugin
yourself just extract the tarball in $QPEDIR, edit the toplevel
Makefile and add mpegplayer/modplug to COMPONENTS and re-configure.

The postinst/postrm
scripts automatically take care of registering (and unregistering
upon deinstallation) the various file extensions at the mime.types
registry, so that modules easily get recognized by the Qtopia
document system and the media player.

Transferring music modules to your device can be done easily
using the Qtopia Desktop. You just need to add the following line
to $PALMTOPCENTERDIR/etc/mime.types:

audio/x-mod 669 amf apun dsm far gdm imf it med mod mtm nst s3m stm stx ult uni xm

Known bugs: The plugin is known to have problems with some modules
(will produce bogus sound or even crash :-( . It confuses me because
the same modules work just fine in xmms-modplugin :-(

(Gigabytes of free modules can be found at sites like
http://www.scene.org/, http://www.scenemusic.net/ or
http://www.modarchive.com/ :-)
