While I'm not Ralf, and I definitely don't know anything about hardware
hacking like he does, it's MVHO that the later is just an enhanced
version of the former (e.g. V0.1 and V0.2).

Yes, you'll definitely need a converter with a PIC, the dumb PS2-DB9
adapters just do change the layout of the pins.
