It's not dangerous at all, once you've gotten the bootldr written to the
machine there's not much you can do wrong to "brick" it.

However, I don't think making the procedure working with the USB cradle is a
good idea, it would require complete USB drivers in the bootldr (as far as I
know) and serial just feels more robust when doing those low-level things.
