[iPAQ] battery and software

I'm looking for software that can help me preserve battery power:

- something that automatically suspends an idle ipaq
- a better way to control the backlight
- something to automatically detect when the ipaq is connected to an
  external power source (or not) that can toggle things like the
  backlight or the idle-suspension
- something that'll pop up a warning message window when the charge
  reaches a defined value (say, 10% left).

any pointers?
