Andrew ,
Equally important for a commercial success will be :
Opening up the 38** specs for both developer communities
Getting a standardisation effort off the ground with respect to the "Hosiden " connectors for the cradle/cable , comparable to that what made "sub D" connectors standard fare on desktop PC's for serial , parallell and VGA ports
Making these connectors available on a global basis ( there's a large developer base out there in Continental Europe as well as South-Asia ! ) , this can also benefit the WindowsCE side of the equation
Desktop stands/vehicle mounts allowing a cradled iPaq to be used in landscape mode ( wich actually is the hardware default ! ! )
Porting support for specialist operating environments such as RISCOS ( native OS for the iPaq as well as other ARM-based devices ), Inferno ( for GIS environments ) QNX ( bespoke environments in certain vertical markets , EPOC 32 ( Symbian platform )
Direct PalmPilot Hotsync
Full USB host solutions using bridges from serial , sleeve , LAN or Bluetooth interfaces
