Right now, things are pretty simple minded: there is a command
line program (bl) for controlling the front light.
The screen itself is turned on and off by X, using the usual
X controls for timeouts.
Much more elaborate policies can be done by writing a small program using
the X screen saver extension (which is present in the X server in Familiar),
and controlling the screen/frontlight in any way you like (Or for that
matter, suspending the iPAQ when idle). No one so far to my knowledge
has written such a program (not that it is hard).
The one wrinkle is to define some convention where applications can
register that they don't want automatic suspension.
Go for it....
As there are probably no python bindings to the X screen saver extension,
you'd probably have to write a bit of C.
