Yes, the bootloader 2.17.12 problem has been looked at. Brian
identified the problem on Friday --- turns out that the bootloader was
passing an incorrect palette on screen initialization, which trashes the
LCD controller on the SA1110. There's a chance that this bug fix may
also help with people's complaints about the image quality on 3600's.

And yes, I agree with the complaints that the 3100 support can be a bit
frustrating at times. I added contrast and backlight controls to the
3100 many months ago, but they still don't show up as a part of the
standard Familiar distribution.
