I'd oppose the idea on non-programming grounds. contrast, brightness in
general readability is a major problem for PDA devices. remember they
are not used in the office, but in a lot of environments with less than
optimal lighting conditions, and most people who care for battery life
don't switch the backlight on unless it's needed.
semi-transparency greatly reduces the contrast, making readibility
worse than it already is.
