I think it makes a LOT more sense to use the physical button as a toggle,
why clutter up the screen? If you want to clutter the screen, don't waste
a button, but put a little region in the corner (possibly using the window
where the key modifiers are displayed as I suggested earlier). Either
way, I think if you do it two different ways you are wasting precious
resources, just make it a toggle.
