I suppose that could work, but I don't see why it would be preferable to
just
having the iPAQ on the network (probably via USB). Then you could remote
the
display and keyboard from the desktop. If you were disconnected, then there
wouldn't be any way to talk to USB devices anyway, so it doesn't get any
additional functionality that I can see.

        With such a device you could use your iPAQ with a USB network adapter,
remote keyboard, USB disk drive, etc., etc.. This would be a way of
providing "master" type capability to the iPAQ fairly simply. Perhaps one
of the Atmel AVR or a PIC could be pressed into service for a fairly simplet
"master".

        Since most of the USB capable devices are fairly portable, it seems an
obvious plus. It also helps keep the CF slot clear for other uses, such as
wireless internet access.
