I hacked my USB cradle into a serial + USB cradle, and have loaded
Linux. Wheeee!!!! It was too easy:
1) Using a T-6 Torx driver, I disassembled my cradle.
2) After removing the base, the innards may be removed upwards.
3) This frees up the little circuit board.
4) Using Jim Pick's wiring instructions linked from the Serial port
Howto, I wired up TXD, RXD, and ground.
5) Installed ActiveStink.
6) Could get it to locate the iPaq using the serial cable, so I
switched to USB
7) I copied CELoader, and the boot loader over using USB.
8) I started the boot loader using CELoader and ran Hyperterminal.
9) Had to turn off Hardware Handshake (since I didn't wire up those
signals), but I got a boot> prompt. As I write this, I'm
downloading the ramdisk.
We *really* need USB client support in the boot loader. It would be
much easier and faster if the boot loader knew how to use USB. Either
that, or we need an installer which copies files from RAM to Flash.
