If you go back in the archives a coupld weeks, you'll find a
thread where I suggested a correction to the install
instructions and the author kindly responded with an
additional tip that the FAT partition now needs to be larger
than 16M (the bootloader apparently requires that).
I have a similar setup to you, except my drive is a toshiba
pcmcia drive (i.e. no pcmcia/ide adapter).
Another thing to check is the pcmcia subsystem. Do you
have some other vfat media you can try to work with? In my
case, I used a CF card before I got the hard drive.
