Booting from VFAT

Hi,

This is my first post here and of course it's for HELP.

I've been messing around for days now trying to get Intimate to boot from a VFAT partition like the instructions say in the link on the News section.
I partitioned my drive (850mb travelstar attached via a IBM PCMCIA/IDE card) following the instruction for
part 1 10Mb Type 6 Fat16
part 2 The rest Type 82 Linux

I did the
mkdosfs /dev/hde1 for part1 and
mkfs.ext3 -j /dev/hde2

copied the zimage, initrd and params to /mnt/hde1/boot

then reboot the ipaq (a 3650) and select the Boot VFAT/CF option

not matter what I do I can not get it to boot.
it fails when trying to read the zimage with a read zimage failed rc=FFFFFFFE

if I take and format a 128mb CF card and put the same files in a boot directory on it it loads successfully and all is good except the configuration is not what I need.

I've not seen any errors about long file names. it also doesn't look like it's reading the params file as it' goes to look for zImage not zimage.

has anyone had similar problems and maybe can offer a solution?

TIA

Doug
