Nothing more.
The HTC bootloader (which will never be overwritten, unless you make a
big mistake) can be controlled by both USB and serial.
But if you want to control the SDG bootloader (which is loaded by the
HTC bootloader, and which in turns loads the linux kernel), you will
need a serial cable (bought or home made). But actually, it's possible
to boot linux without the need of extra control on the SDG bootloader,
so the serial cable is just here for early console access and ease of
use.
