I'm now seeing the same.
Unfortunately, I don't quite understand what I have to do to get a console.

tmp/rootfs/etc/inittab contains this:
S:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 115200 ttyS0
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty1

The bootloader (1.1.5-hx4700) says:
linuxargs= < root=/dev/mtdblock2 rw rootfstype=jffs2 console=ttyS0,115200n8>
