"Erase failed" ... how to fix?

Hi,

Following my previous mail:
http://www.handhelds.org/hypermail/hx4700-port/current/2766.html, I
managed to mess up...

I was copying new kernel modules over to my hx4700; in this instance, I
was merely adding kernel modules. During the copy, the scp process
became unresponsive (and the filesystem equivalent of a garbage
collector was not running on the PDA at the time). After a few tries, I
reboot, and I get the penguin symbol but no text on-screen.

So I figure the root filesystem has gotten messed up. Perhaps I messed
up my scp command somehow. I want to reflash the root partition, and get
going again.

Unfortunately, when I try to reflash the root partition, I get the
following message:
" Erase failed

        Press power button to
         restart the system.
          Press record for
         further reflashing"

So what's wrong? And what can I do to fix?

Cheers,
-S.
