Thanks, I will try it out partitioning the card I have.

After the install, is it recommended to partition the CF card as ext2/ext3 or fat16 if I wanted to use it as an extended partition for the familiar installation?

 After the initial installation, you don't need to keep this partition. So reformat with full capacity until you need to do this again.

Some recent bootloader fixes may resolve the previous problem. Try your
card as-is first.
