processor question

Hello,
Im trying to compile some wireless mmx instruction programs on the IPAQ
and I have hit a snag .

I can compile the program fine but at run time error I get Illegal
Instruction error.

On posting my findings on various boards, one of them got back to me
saying that WMMX instruction support must be turned on at boot time .

Does the current kernel support wmmx instructions ? is the support for
it turned on or can I turn it on at boot time ? does this code have to
be in bootloader to turn on these instructions ?
