help with GUI linux boots

Hello
I have bought the xda exec "universal" today and want the opie or gpe gui to run on it. Linux boots fine but no GUI.

I have a 512mb sd card in it.

I have tried http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/UniversalHowtoInstallLinux

but opie does not boot
Can anyone help
