I was wondering if the capability to use the HTC-Apache as a phone is
available in the Linux for HTC-Apache.

Hi,
I just tried out GPE ont he HTC universal... and I have serious problems
with it!
1) the screen is stuck in portrait mode - I managed to go on the
screen's settings, but there is no alternative to portrait in the
drop-down list!
2) the touch screen is not working at all
Also, I was not able to connect to my wireless network (works in OPIE),
but I did not gave a serious try to it - (try to use keyboard input only
with the portrait mode for a quick headache!)
Am I doing something wrong?
Piero

This one worked for me how it should

No landscape? The one i used had landscape

Worked for me,too.

Had no problem with this.
The hardware _should_ be the same. Have you followed the Instructions?
Especially the parts with "reboot"? it is needed to sync to the sd/mmc card.
Please check if there is no problem with the installation.
If you copy the files from a pc, remember: sync;umount; pull out the media
;)

Thank you for the quick answer and for the info...
http://gnulinux.biz/files/Universal/sd-mmc/2.6.16/
is where I got the files.
I am sure I installed it properly (I had no problems with OPIE and the
procedure is the same, and I am pretty confident in using linux in general).
However, I think something went wrong during the installation
(particularly during the first LONG boot), probably just reinstalling it
will do the trick.
I will keep you posted

Here I am again...
I reinstalled GPE (twice - the first time after the first boot I got a
completely black screen).
Still the same problems - portrait orientation only, no touchscreen,
unable to connect to the wireless network as before.
I am sure I am doing something stupid during the installation.
This is what I am doing:
o boot the ramdisk
o mount the sdcard
o wipe out the existing installation
o untar the files
o sync
o reboot
o boot from the sdcard
o wait... GPE boots, I see the splash in portrait mode, after a while
messages on the screen (cannot connect to the wireless net)
o i get the first time setup with wrong orientation and no touchscreen
Any idea?
