Greetings HaRET users, contributors, developers!

Recently, Andrew Zaobolotny, author of HaRET, passed HaRET
maintenance to Kevin O'Connor and myself. It's time to start planning
for the next HaRET releases and their features.

Current HaRET CVS trunk snapshot, known as
haret-0.3.7-bigkernel, has been in testing for some time now, and many
known to test it (at least) while running RamdiskRescue
( http://handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/RamdiskRescue ). It had one known
regression, comparing to previous HaRET versions - it has problems
with showing penguin bootlogo on QVGA machines, as result of adding
support for VGA bootlogo.

Today, I've fixed this issue, it turned out that it was not due
to QVGA/VGA differences, but due to method of detecting start was
changed incompatibly, with new one apparently working only on at least
WM2003SE devices. I tested new version on h3900, h4000, hx4700, and it
works as expected (h3900 has another known issue with penguin
bootlogo). I'm going to release this version as 0.3.8 ASAP, as soon as
I get confirmation that it boots and shows logo on h2200.

Everyone is welcome to test it:
http://handhelds.org/~pfalcon/haret-hacks/haret-0.3.8-pre.zip

0.3.x branch already created, and I plan to release 0.3.9 out if
it later, which should fix h3900 bootlogo, as well as deal with VGA
bootlogo bloat (0.3.8 exe size is 600k, 0.3.6 is 200k, this 3x growth
won't do, of course).

And well, CVS trunk is now open for 0.4 series, which should be
merge with HaRET fork, gnu-haret. gnu-haret has extensive fixes for
Linux boot procedure and PXA27x support, and even more extensive
improvements and additions to device investigation module. Hopefully,
this will be led by Kevin, who is an active gnu-haret contributor.

We welcome every HaRET user to help us to improve the
documentation and collect device support information. Please submit
your ideas/patches/results here, or feel free to edit HaRET wiki page,
http://handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/HaRET .

If you will post success/failure boot results, please make sure
that you besides your device model also include the exact WinCE version
and build number, as shown in

Start menu -> Settings -> System -> About.

(Yes, please use standard WinCE "About" applet, and not device- or
vendor- dependent applets like HP's "Asset Viewer").

Knowing exact system version will let us correlate different
reports, and actually working towards improving HaRET.

Thank you,
