Of course, you also want to measure the benefits in addition to the
cost. :)

Network transparency is a very powerful concept in X. Many people
working on the handhelds.org project envision a handheld computer as a
device that is often on the network. In such an environment, X
programs can run on the handheld with display set to a desktop
computer. This behavior could replace the need for "synching"
application data for example, (backup is of course a separate issue).

I'm very excited about the potential with X in areas such as this.
