UMSDOS?

I want to use linux on my ipaq, but to be honest,
don't feel good about flashing the memory with a beta
release of any distro ;)
I'm in the process of deciding weather I'm going to
get an IOMEGA click drive (which has linux drivers) or
an IBM microdrive, so I should have plenty of space to
store all the system files. What I would really like
to do is have a bootloader+kernel on the wince side,
like loadlin, that boots to an EXT2 formatted
disk/partiton. Failing that is a umsdos type of
soultion feasable on an ipaq w/ extended storage? I
can't think of a reason why not, but maybe someone
else can tell me no, don't even bother here's why.
