This is already possible with the core protocol; app support has just been
unavailable. This extension might make apps catch up though.
What the extension allows is for the "native" visual for the X server to
change on the fly. We did this by forcing the server to emulate all
supported visuals and make apps smart enough to recreate the appropriate
resources when this happens.
Apps using the Render extension will have a much easier time of this; only
their windows need to be recreated.
