Hello All,
A curiosity question: Has anyone looked into the feasability of a Linux port
for the HP Jornada 720? The idea of making the world's smallest network
analyser by using the Jornada 720 with Linux, an Ethernet card, and the
"Ethereal" network Sniffer program just appeals to me. The base hardware is
similar to the iPaq 3630. The same StrongARM chip, WinCE 3.0, etc.
Unfortunately, I'm not enough of a programmer nowadays to do this myself.
What appeals to me is that the Jornada has all the features that the iPaq
didn't include in the base package and put into the impossible-to-get
sleeves:
- A real keyboard
- Built-in Compact Flash slot
- Built-in PCMCIA slot
- Built-in Smartcard reader
- Built-in 56k modem
- A 1/2 VGA screen
Of course, before anyone flames me, the penalties for all this are:
- Weight - 1.1 lbs.
- Size - slightly smaller than a VHS video tape.
- Screen quality is not as good as the iPaq. (The iPaq's screen clarity is
awesome!)
- Price - $995 list. (Of course, a iPaq + PCMCIA sleeve + keyboard + modem
is not much cheaper.)
Over time, I have owned several Palm devices, and Ipaq 3630, and now the HP
Jornada 720. I sold the Palm IIIc and the iPaq 3630 after I got the Jornada.
It's really that much nicer, especially with my poor handwriting.
Any thoughts or encouragement would be appreciated.
Yours,
(^.^) Jason
