I have an iPaq with a dust problem. In fact, it had dust in it when I
opened the box. I called tech support, sent the unit in, and had it
returned to me a few days later. The response was that nothing could be
done. On the day I got my unit back, I received a call from someone else
at Compaq telling me the problem was pretty widespread (no kidding!) and
that I could expect a redesigned replacement unit without the holes in
the stylus slot -- the source of the problem.
Now, I am inclinded to give this guy some credence. He didn't have to
call me and tell me anything.
Yes, I have his name and direct line, but I see no point in posting it
so he can be deluged with support calls that he can do nothing about.
I called him back Friday to see what was up. Nothing yet, but he hasn't
forgotten me, so he says.
Given what he said, I wouldn't be surprised if production has
temporarily stopped. Look, I got my iPaq at Circuit City on 7/30. A
whole bunch seemed to come in, and prices on eBay plummeted. But
availability since then has been scarce, to say the least.
The iPaq is popular, but is it so popular that mighty Compaq is so
totally incapable of keeping up with even a fraction of demand?
Especially since it was announced in April and it is now September.
