As a complete novice (well, with iPAQs anyway, not Linux), I was able
to get both HH v.20 and subsequently Familiar/bleeding running with
little difficulty.
I suggest you go straight to Familiar v.4

Yes, indeed. On that point, I'd like to suggest that some of the
larger ipkgs (like Emacs :-) be configured to install in /usr/local/
instead of /usr/. Given the memory constraints of the iPAQ, I've
moved /usr/local/ onto a separate CF card.
Just a thought.
