Uhh, I didn't write any of this. This is the first I remember seeing of
this thread. Having to deal with HP-UX daily, I am not much of a HP fan
(nice printers, though), but I have never given their handhelds a second
thought.

>>It may be true and
man does this wreak!!! Another no name exec
comes into a company and knows NOTHING about the product he is
&quotimproving". (The improving is read destroying!) The Jornada
is great using the Pocket PC software.

Tom , sorry for you and with all respect for your rant , this is not a
no-name exec but one with long-standing experience in electronics

>>Why would HP want to ruin
a technically superior device like the Jornada using Pocket PC.
If I had to accept an OS change I might could live with the Linux
based Jornada (barely), but to implement a Palm OS Jornada is a
SLAP in the FACE of HP's LOYAL customer base using Pocket PCs.
Can anyone imagine a Palm OS Jornada? UUGGGHHH!!! Hey, Carly /
CEO of HP, if you're listening, get rid of this new exec thats
screwing with HP's handheld division. <<

This is the age of the $499 PC and the $999 SUN/Solaris workstation/small
server , combine this with the current economic downturn and you will have
to appreciate that few people are willing to fork out a grand for something
that still isn't entirely there
You have been on both the Webboard as well as both mailing lists
(yopy-general and handhelds.org ) for the better part of a year so you know
very well that these things still need a lot of work to be done in order to
actually becoming usable

>>This guy doesn't know a
thing about the market. ONE of the reasons Palm sells are high is
their devices are CHEAP (and simplistic). Don't tell me that you
are going to be able to sell a Jornada competively at around $150
     give or take.<<

People want something that does what it is expected to do right out of the
box ,Palm gives them just that , do you really think that the great
unwashed masses are going to mess with the registry or configuration files
, let alone delve int cryptic commands or hack and compile source code in
order to let the thing play nice , rather than act up in the most
unexpected ways
People have a daytime job and simply won't let these things vie for work
alongside their regular occupation

>> I know that the Pocket PC OS is not driving the
cost on the Jornada selling at $499. Its the hardware. Don't
screw with our Pocket PCs! Make it better, but don't change the
OS. We love them as they are. HP, if you're wondering why the
Jornada isn't grabbing enough of the market share, try this
hint............We call it advertisement. Try spending a little
more on it. Don't blame Microsoft for not advertising the OS more
because when it comes down to it , its your product in the end.
So sell it. Advertise. Its up to you to promote sells, not MS!
All the Pocket PC manufacturers could try to get off their bums
and promote their products MORE! Everyone that loves their HP
handhelds and Jornadas or even other Pocket PCs should email HP
to complain about this potential change. We must make our
     positions known! Go to
     http://www.hp.com/jornada/products/assistance/feedback.html to
email HP and voice your SUPPORT for the POCKET PC O.S. on the
JORNADA. Its up to us to make a stand.
Kirk out.<<

Its up to us to make a stand. , yes , but people have
already voted with their wallets : Palm and Psion

If Apple did not kill Newton in 1997/1998 WindowsCE would have been extinct
by now and PocketPC would never have seen the light of day and we would
still been stuck with closed , proprietary platforms for high-end PDA's

 kits over and out
