There is such a concern. However, my students last year were using iPAQs
for their lab exercises, their home directories were placed in flash, and
all units survived. This year I bought MMC cards for the home directories,
just to be on the safe side.

The flash memory should withstand "nomal" use, by which I mean one-to-one
correspondence between human actions and data updates. I am mainly
concerned about programming bugs. You know, students sometimes write
such programs that open and close files in an infinite loop...
