Supposedly the at76c503a driver has the capability to do this. I have
never tried it and I doubt anyone w/ a handheld has. And the driver that
familiar has is a little old and is missing a few patches relating to
firmware upgrading. But it is possible.

Being a chicken regarding firmware flashing, I checked for firmware upgrades
before switching to linux. Some people have successfully reported
re-installing pocketpc, flashing and going back.
