It turns out that I messed things up by resetting the device too early
when it was booting up Familiar for the first time.
A combination of bright sunlight making it impossible for me to see Tux
with the backlight off, and the fact that the bootldr has the wrong
console setting for my h5550 (ttySA0 instead of ttyS0) meant that I
thought the iPAQ had got wedged, so I reset it. In fact it was merrily
configuring itself; I saw nothing on the serial port, of course, owing
to bootldr's console setting. My reset left it in a half-configured state.
Might I suggest a few words to this effect might be nice in the release
notes? (that the console setting needs to be changed before "boot", or
just to wait a fair while for something to happen)
All working perfectly now that I've re-installed :)
cheers,
calum.
